Are you ready for some area high school postseason football?

There will be plenty!

Alleghany, Bath County and Covington – for the first time ever – have all nailed down playoff berths in the same year.

Now, all that’s left for the Mountaineers (6-3), Chargers (6-3) and Cougars (5-4) to learn late Friday night – who will be their first round opponents and where will the games take place.

The fields for both the Region III, Division 3 and the Region C, Division 1 playoffs are set, but not one of the 12 teams involved has secured a seed heading into the final regular season Friday.

Region III, Division 3xxx

Liberty, Northside, Brookville, R.E. Lee and Stuarts Draft will join Alleghany in making up the field in Region III, Division 3.

For the Mountaineers, they could finish anywhere from 4 to 6 in the seedings.

To land the No. 4 spot, and a first round home game, Alleghany must defeat William Byrd Friday as well as receive some help from Wilson Memorial- an upset win over R.E. Lee. If both the Mounties and Wilson win, it would come down to rider points for the No. 4 position.

An Alleghany win and an R.E. Lee victory would mean a No. 5 seeding for the Mounties, while an AHS loss and a win by Stuarts Draft over winless Rockbridge could send Coach Jack Baker’s team to the No. 6 spot.

Probable first round opponents for Alleghany will be either Brookville or R.E. Lee.

Region C, Division 1xxx

Holston and Eastern Montgomery head the Region C, Division 1 field, with Bath County, Covington, Rural Retreat and Narrows completing the bracket.

Holston has secured a first round bye, while an East Mont victory over 1-8 Auburn would give the Mustangs a bye to the semifinals.

Bath County, win or lose in their finale against Pendleton, will play at home in the first round as the No. 3 seed, unless Auburn pulls the upset. The Chargers would then have a chance to get to No. 2.

Covington would clinch the No. 4 spot and a first round home game with a win over Parry McCluer Friday. A loss for the Cougars would send them on the road for a playoff game, either at Narrows or Rural Retreat.
