Residents in the area were greeted by 2-3 inches of snow this morning.
The weather forecast called for freezing rain during the night and the unexpected snow made driving treacherous in several southwest Virginia counties.
The storm came almost two weeks after 22-24 inches of snow covered the Highlands on December 19.
