Ruby Jane Smith Jones, 69, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in Weeki Wachee, Florida.

Mrs. Jones was born March 30, 1940, in the Mount Pleasant area of Alleghany County a daughter of the late Eugene Harvey and Violet Humphries Smith.

In 1956, Jane married David William Jones and traveled with him as he served in the U. S. Army for the next 22 years. They then retired in Covington. She had recently moved to her daughter’s home in Weeki Wachee, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, David Jones, in 1999 and by one Brother, Wayne Smith.

Surviving are her Daughter, Kathy Harper of Weekiwachee, FL; two Sons, Mike Jones of Waverly and Jim Jones and his wife, Susan, of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, Rebecca Crowder and her husband, Jay, and Sarah Harper, both of Covington and Nathan Jones and Joshua Jones both of Mechanicsville; two great grandchildren, Michelle Harper and David Crowder both of Covington; two sisters, Nancy Coleman of Fredericksburg and Susan Scruggs of Clifton Forge ; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Charles and Sue Smith of Covington, Robert and Beverly Smith of Clifton Forge, Jerry and Mary Smith of Charlottesville, Russell and Joycelyn Smith of Weeki Wachee, FL, and Donnie Persinger of Pinellis, FL, several of nieces and nephews,

a special friend, Harold McDonald, of Covington and her beloved pet, Miss Scarlett.

Mrs. Jones’ body will arrive in Covington this evening.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon Hammond officiating.

Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of Susan Scruggs,

705 Jefferson Avenue, Clifton Forge.

The family suggests that donations in Mrs. Jones’ name be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422
