Hallie Virginia “Dolly” Sloan Porterfield, 57 of Dolly Ann, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009.
She was born June 25, 1952, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Arthur W. and Allie Belle Campbell Sloan.
Dolly was employed by Ritsch’s Cleaners in Covington.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Dressler of Midolothian and Michael Dressler of Florida; one grandson, Logan Bryce; two brothers, Wallace Sloan and his wife, Dreama, of Chester, and James Sloan of Covington; one sister, Jessie Shupe of Chester; a niece, Stephanie Sloan of Clifton Forge; four nephews, Alan Sloan, Roman Sloan, Kyle Sloan and Gene Shupe; great-nieces and nephews, Alana Sloan, Zack Sloan, Krystal Sloan, Gabriel Sloan, Summer Sloan and Carter Sloan; one great-great-niece, Allie Sloan; and a special friend and companion, Phillip Craft.
In keeping with Dolly’s wishes, her body has been donated to medical science.
A memorial service will be conducted this evening at 6:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church Family Center with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating.
Following the service, the family will receive friends. At other times, the family will receive friends at the Sloan residence, 623 Commercial Ave., Clifton Forge.
The family suggests that memorial donations in Ms. Porterfield’s name be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Va. 24426.
