LOW MOOR, VA (VR) — The Alleghany Highlands YMCA is hosting its Back to School Bash on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The event will include a bouncy house, free swimming in the pool, a dunking booth, face painting and other games. Students can also enter drawings to win various prizes. You must be present to win. A limited number of free backpacks, lunch boxes and water bottles will be distributed at the event.
School-required vaccines for seventh and twelfth graders will also be provided at the bash. No registration is required and walk-ins are welcomed. Parents or guardians are asked to bring insurance cards.
“Our YMCA is happy to partner with various organizations and community members to make the Back to School Bash a success,” said Bobbie Wagner, YMCA chief executive officer. “This is a collaborative effort, and we hope you all will come out and enjoy the evening with us.”
This event is a joint effort between the Alleghany Highlands YMCA, the Alleghany Highlands YMCA Healthy Highlands Program, Alleghany Highlands Community Services, Total Action for Progress, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts, LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, the Virginia Department of Health, Alleghany Highlands Public Schools, Bath Community Physicians Group, the Alleghany Highlands Healthy Youth Coalition, the Alleghany/Covington Department of Social Services and other community organizations.
“This Back to School Bash represents more than 15 of our community organizations working together for the youth of the Alleghany Highlands,” said Dr. Sandra McHenry, Healthy Highlands Program leader. “Come on out, have fun and learn about all the wonderful resources available here in Alleghany County.”
As a reminder, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
In conjunction with the Back to School Bash, a Community Back to School Supply Drive is also underway. Needed donations include new water bottles, backpacks and lunch boxes.
Donations can be dropped off at the Alleghany Highlands YMCA, LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, the Covington Health Department, Alleghany Highlands Community Services or the TAP office in Covington. The deadline for donations is July 30.
