As we celebrated the Fourth of July, we remember the bravery of our Founders and their willingness to fight for freedom, a fight that enabled us to live in a country with the privilege of being free. Unfortunately following Biden’s debate performance and his increased evidence of mental lapses, it is clear that Biden is not capable of serving as President of the United States. I also led a letter with my colleagues to President Biden demanding that the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Agriculture not adopt a new standard that will raise new home prices by an average of $7,200 per single-family home. As always, it is a pleasure to represent my constituents in Washington. As we prepare for a busy week in Washington ahead, I will continue fighting for the good people of the Sixth District.
Celebrating
Independence Day
As we recognized Independence Day last week, I had the time to reflect on the great honor of representing Virginia’s Sixth District in Congress. Growing up in Virginia, I was taught the inspirational stories of our Founding Fathers and the true sacrifices they made in their fight for our nation’s independence 248 years ago. Thanks to their unparalleled bravery in crafting and signing the Declaration of Independence, we are fortunate enough to live in a nation with great freedoms and liberty. Let us always remember the unwavering determination of our Founding Fathers and strive to uphold the values they fought for. We must ensure that the spirit of freedom continues to flourish in the United States.
Biden’s Mental
Capabilities
Democrats are facing turmoil after being implicated in what may be one of the greatest political cover-ups in American history. For over three years, whenever concerns surfaced about Joe Biden’s mental capabilities, Democrats nationwide hurried to defend him, insisting that Biden was as sharp as ever.
However, in the wake of Biden’s alarming debate performance and subsequent mental lapses, there is now undeniable evidence that Biden is not capable of serving as President of the United States. The situation has deteriorated to the point where numerous House Democrats have publicly called for Biden to withdraw from the campaign. We need a President who is able to make critical decisions for our Nation, not one who is only prepared to lead between the hours of 8 AM and 4 PM. Biden should resign or his cabinet needs to step in according to the 25th Amendment for the greater good of our nation. The security of the nation and the well-being of the American people must take precedence over political agendas.
Protecting Housing
Opportunities
In April of this year, Biden’s Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the adoption of the updated Minimum Energy Standards for new single and multi-family homes. HUD estimates that applying the 2021 IECC standards would cause new home prices to rise by an average of $7,200 per single-family home. This standard would also have a disproportionate impact on historically underserved communities and first-time home buyers who are highly sensitive to price and down payment increases at the low- to mid-price range of the housing market.
During a time when mortgage rates have climbed to over 7% nationally, housing affordability has plummeted to record lows, and inflation has skyrocketed to a 40-year high, the last thing Americans need is more bureaucratic red tape that will make homeownership unattainable. That’s why last week, I led a letter with my colleagues to President Biden demanding that this Administration does not move forward with adopting this standard. I am committed to cutting burdensome regulations and protecting housing opportunities for all Americans. You can read the full letter here.
