Residents of Covington and Alleghany County enjoyed a full day of celebrating with music and fun at Jackson River Sports Complex on a hot Fourth of July.

Michael Armstrong & Friends kicked off the events. Kids entertainment included bounce houses, inflatable slides and a obstacle course.  Afternoon rain showers threatened to cancel the evening activities but after a brief rain shower that brought cooling temperatures, the fun continued. There was extra enjoyment for the kids when the summer shower offered some water fun too.

Citizens who came out after the rain were not disappointed by the fun and funky band, The Kings, who offered a royal treat to all those who came to enjoy the show. Community members enjoyed dancing and meeting up with family and friends.

A fireworks display sponsored by WESTROCK, the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Covington was the perfect capstone to the evening, accompanied by patriotic music which echoed across the mountains and offered dazzling views from all parts of the area.
