PEARISBURG – The 2024 VHSL Region 1C Outdoor Track & Field championships took place last Wednesday, May 22nd in Pearisburg at the Giles High School track field.

Auburn High School crushed the competition as the school swept both the boys’ and girls’ events.

With 13 schools representing girls’ teams at the regional championship, Bath County finished in 10th place with 15 total points.

Natalie White was the lone Chargers runner to crack the top-3 in any of the events as she finished second overall in the 3200-meter run. White finished with a time of 12:38.13. Emma Faulkner from George Wythe won the event with a staggering time of 12:30.79.

While White finished in the top-3, Abbey Phillips did make it in the top-5 in the 100-meter hurdles. Phillips finished with a time of 19.62 and just missed out on reaching the state tournament as she needed a fourth-place finish.

The BCHS 4×100 relay team just missed a top-5 finish with a time of 58.11. Giles held off the Chargers for 5th place by 50 seconds. The relay team consisted of Kenley Smith, Zy Coleman, Samantha Horne, and Laci Ryder.

Bath County will now compete at this weekend’s State Championship at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. White will be the lone representative for the Chargers at the state meet. White had originally qualified for the 800- and 3200-meter runs, however with BCHS graduating on Saturday as well, White will only be competing in the 800-meter run. The 3200 is scheduled to take place during Saturday morning while graduation is ongoing.
