Hot Springs Firefighter, Rescue Squad Member Dies At 53

Edward “Charlie” Wayne Woodzell, 53, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at his residence. 

He was born July 11, 1966 in Bath County, Virginia, the son of the late Hugh “Buzz” Edward Ryder and Edna Arlene Woodzell.

Charlie was employed with Omni Homestead Resort where he worked in maintenance and security with over 20 years of service.

He was a member of the Hot Springs Rescue Squad, the Hot Springs Fire Department and the Bath/Highland Houndsman Association. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bear hunting.

He is survived by a son, Justin Woodzell & wife Debra of Warm Springs, Virginia;  two grandchildren, Jeffrey Hamilton & wife Hannah of Warm Springs, Crystal Hamilton of Hot Springs; great grand children, Jeffrey, Madison, Jennifer and Molly Hamilton and soon to be born sometime in June “Donnie” Hamilton; two brothers, Dennis Woodzell & Fiancé Lisa Pontorno of Maxwelton, West Virginia, Glenn “Shag” Walton of Union, West Virginia; and a Step-father, Imon Walton of Union, West Virginia.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2020 at Jacob Cleek Cemetery with Mr. Mike Spurgeon officiating. Interment will be in Jacob Cleek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hot Springs Fire & Rescue Association, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.

Arrangements are being handled by McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.mclaughlinandyoung.com.
