Covington Farmer’s Market Set to Open Saturday, June 13, 2020
After a Covid-19 caused delay, the Covington Farmer’s Market is excited to announce the start of the 2020 farmer’s market season. The opening market will be held on Saturday, June 13th at the farmer’s market pavilion in downtown Covington and continue each Saturday through the fall. Vendors will begin selling at 9 am sharp and the market will end at noon.
“I’m excited to get back to the market,” said market manager Patsy Jones “I miss chatting with customers and other vendors each week and hearing about things going on in the community”
Local vendors are ready to go with produce, baked goods, crafts and other agricultural-related products. The Farmer’s Market will also invite local agriculture-related nonprofit groups to set up at the market to show the variety of plants, livestock, produce and natural resource found in the Alleghany Highlands.
This year’s market will be a little bit different to comply with social distancing guidelines. “Safety is the number one priority for the steering committee,” said Christine Hodges, the local agriculture extension agent and member of the steering committee. Vendors will be wearing masks and have been asked to pre bag as much produce as possible to reduce touchpoints. Attendees are asked to respect the six-foot social distancing guidelines and stay home if they aren’t feeling well. Hand sanitization stations will be available for both customers and vendors alike.
In a year where food supply chains have been interrupted, having locally sourced meat and produce available is important to our community and the farmer’s market looks forward to filling that gap. For more information about the market, visit our website at www.covingtonfarmersmarket.com
