The Clifton Forge Community Gathering held on Thursday, November 16 celebrated an evening of thankfulness. Bryan Thompson of Alleghany Highland Economic Development Corporation spoke of the many accessible programs in the community and Town Manager Chuck Unroe delivered the State of the Town update via Google Meet.
The Community Gathering Planning Committee recognized some of the many volunteers that make the town and community run more smoothly with the “Hidden Treasures” Award. Mott Atherholt, member of Clifton Forge Main Street’s Board of Directors commented, “We hope to make this an annual event–there are so many hidden treasures in our community to recognize”. The Community Gatherings are sponsored by Clifton Forge Main Street.
On Thursday, the following organizations were recognized with a presentation folder that stated, “For Tremendous and Treasured Volunteer Service to the Town of Clifton Forge”. The following quote was included in the document, “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” Elizabeth Andrew, American author.
The following organizations were honored: Clifton Forge Food Pantry volunteers; Girl Scouts, Troop 536; Boy Scouts, Troop 2; Vision 2025 Clifton Forge Corridor Curb Appeal Public Art volunteers; Clifton Forge Little League volunteers; Clifton Forge Women’s Club volunteers; Clifton Forge Rescue Squad volunteers; Clifton Forge High School Alumni Association; Clifton Forge Fire Department volunteers; Clifton Forge Public Library Friends of the Library volunteers; and Christmas Mother Pillowcase Project volunteers. Mott Atherholt continued by saying, “Congratulations and thank you to all our volunteers”. Desserts were made and served by the Community Gathering Planning Committee as a thank you for the support from the community. The Community Gatherings began in March 2022, meet monthly and are comprised of residents who want to see Clifton Forge residents and elected officials work together to make Clifton Forge a better place to live, work, play and do business. The Community Gathering Planning Committee includes, Mott Atherholt, Bill Atherholt, Eddie Graham, Mac Beard, Gayle Hillert, Chuck Almarez, Jada Callender and Sandra McHenry. The next Community Gathering is scheduled for February 15, 2024 at The Historic Masonic Theatre. All are welcome.
