Rev. Johnnie Mize
Rev. Clifton Johnnie Mize, Jr., age 82, of Covington, died Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of JoAnn Cline Mize.
Rev. Mize was born August 22, 1941, in Virginia, the son of the late Clifton Johnnie Mize, Sr. and Margaret Daniel Mize. During his ministerial career, Rev. Mize was pastor for churches in Broadway, VA, Harrisonburg, VA and Bluefield, VA before coming to this area. For a number of years, he has been the current pastor at Callaghan Church of God of Prophecy. Rev. Mize was a wonderful friend and counselor who enjoyed helping others as they progressed in their ministerial studies. In his spare time, Johnnie enjoyed woodworking and made a number of wooden rifle pens and perfume atomizers as gifts for family and friends in the community. Rev. Mize was also an amazing carpenter and handyman who was known for always fixing something for someone. He was a member, former president and former vice president of the Ruritan Club
In addition to his wife, JoAnn, Rev. Mize is survived by a daughter, Diane Lynn Pearce of Fresno, CA; a brother, Barry Mize of Richmond; a brother-in-law, Bobby Cline of Covington; and two sisters-in-law, Addie McCaniel and husband, James of Covington and Ruby Andrews and husband, Earl of Newport News.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Jeff Main moderating the service.
