Edith Fout Lawrence
Edith Fout Lawrence peacefully passed away on July 30, 2023, in the tender care of The Regency at Augusta.
Edie was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia in 1926 as the middle daughter of her parents Elmer and Mary Fout. Her two sisters Doris Bass and Frankie Staton predeceased her.
She loved being born and growing up in a small town but that changed when she married Mitchell P. Lawrence Jr, also of Clifton Forge, in 1950 upon her graduation from Furman University. His CIA career took her and their daughter and son around the world until he retired in 1986. Fortunately, she was able to have a teaching career in schools at various assignments along the way, while also practicing her love of teaching and playing music in the various churches attended. Later in life, she found a passion for oil painting, producing nearly one hundred prints and selling them.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, her daughter Mary Beth Hill, her husband Dean, her son Mitchell P. Lawrence III, his wife Teresa, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023, at Oak Grove cemetery in Lexington officiated by Pastor Glen Holman.
A memorial gathering in her honor will be held in the fall for friends and family.
