The Alleghany Cruisers are gearing up for one of the area’s biggest events, the Back the Blue Weekend. This event will be held on June 16-17 at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
The weekend kicks off Friday night, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. with two great local bands taking the stage of the River Rock Amphitheater. Alibi and the Fender Benders Trio are both ready to give area residents a great evening of live music. In addition to the concert, the Alleghany Cruisers will be hosting a Cruise In from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This is a totally free event and is being presented by the City of Covington Department of Parks & Recreation.
On Saturday, June 17 the main event comes to the Jackson River Sports Complex, the fourth annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show. This event will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with registration opening at 8 a.m. The show is open to any type of vehicle.
“The Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show has become one of the region’s fastest-growing car shows,” said Alleghany Cruisers President Robert Floyd. “In just three short years this event has tripled in size. We are looking forward to making this year’s event even better.”
In addition to the many vehicles, the show will feature food and merchandise vendors, activities for children, a live D.J., a 50/50 drawing, law enforcement displays and demonstrations, many door prizes, and a large raffle including a two-piece deluxe toolbox, a Blackstone flat top grille and many more items. A new addition to this year’s event is cash drawings for the car show entrants.
All of the proceeds from the Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show are contributed to the Back the Blue Scholarship Fund. Each year the Alleghany Cruisers award scholarships to area high school seniors that wish to further their education in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field. For 2023 the scholarship was awarded to Alleghany High School senior Jakob Bowser and Bath County High School senior Kayleigh Vess.
“The Alleghany Cruisers are committed to supporting our men and women that protect and serve in the law enforcement community,” said Floyd. “The purpose of this event is to both raise money for the scholarship and honor those working in law enforcement and of course, have a great time doing it.”
The first 100 show entrants will receive dash plaques and goodie bags. And kids can get in on the show too, in addition to the regular car show there will be a model car show.
When the sun sets on the Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show it will be time for the first ever Back the Blue Bash. This event will be held at the River Rock Amphitheater from 6:30-9:30 p.m. THE FREQUENCY will be performing a high-energy concert that is sure to be a hit with area residents. In addition to the free concert, there will be good service, a 50/50 drawing, a drawing for a flat-screen TV, cash giveaways, and a raffle for your choice of a Savage 64F .22 rifle or a Heritage Rough Rider revolver. This is a totally free event.
The Alleghany Cruisers hope that everyone will come out and join them for a fun weekend of cars, music and more.
