Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Lowman
Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Lowman, age 75, of 613 Commercial Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.
Kenny was born on April 2, 1948, in Clifton Forge to the late James “Turk” Lowman and Stella Unroe Lowman. He served two tours of duty in the United States Navy aboard the U. S. S. America during the Vietnam War before returning home to begin his career as an Engineer for CSX Transportation, retiring in 2005. He was very active in the community in various capacities. He was Commander of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299, a member and deacon of Iron Gate Baptist Church, a member and president of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, a member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M., the Kazim Temple of Roanoke, and the Clifton Forge Shrine Club, and he also enjoyed singing in the Celebration Choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Philip Lowman.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Wilmer Lowman, a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Alania Lowman, and three grandchildren, Keely Lowman, Kellen Lowman, and Kiera Lowman, all of Clifton Forge. Also surviving is a brother, Randy Lowman and wife Suzie of Craig County; a brother-in-law, David Wilmer and wife Beth; a sister-in-law, Sandra Wilmer; an aunt, Nancy Unroe of Iron Gate; three nephews, Matthew Lowman, Morgan Lowman, and Bruce Lowman; a host of cousins, great nieces, and great-nephews; and special friends and neighbors Michael, Brandi, Kennedy, and Deakon Brown.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Iron Gate Baptist Church with Reverend David Hanks and Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post # 4299. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny’s cousins, David Wayne Unroe, Mark Brackenridge, Steve Brackenridge, Tim Tabor, Rocky Tolley, Doug Unroe, Scott Unroe, Chuck Unroe, Steve Unroe, H. C. Rhodes, and David Unroe. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
