LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Highlands YMCA has announced it is returning as a participant in the Give Local Alleghany Highlands campaign on Tuesday, May 23. Early giving started on May 9.
Give Local Alleghany Highlands gives residents an opportunity to learn more about services offered through local nonprofits and to support these organizations with their donations. This unique fundraising event is hosted by The Alleghany Foundation and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. It is sponsored by Ingevity.
With support from these generous hosts, Give Local Alleghany Highlands has raised over $350,000 for local nonprofits in the last two years. A total of 33 nonprofits are participating in the 2023 edition of Give Local Alleghany Highlands.
Including matching funds from the Alleghany Foundation, the YMCA topped out at over $40,000 in donations last year. While the foundation’s match could not be included toward the final rankings, the $20,601 that was raised earned the YMCA the second-place spot for large organization gifts, giving the YMCA an additional $2,000.
“We thank all of our donors for their generosity in 2022,” said Alleghany Highlands YMCA Executive Director Jennifer Unroe. “We also thank them in advance for their support in the 2023 Give Local Alleghany Highlands event.”
The Alleghany Foundation will be providing thousands of dollars in prizes and bonus incentives in order to foster friendly competition between the various organizations and encourage donors to give locally this year. Awards and incentives totaling approximately $35,000 will be given to area nonprofits during Give Local Alleghany Highlands.
The largest award is the $3,000 grand prize given to the small nonprofit and large nonprofit that raises the most money. Donations made on May 23 can also win Golden Tickets and will help nonprofits compete in six Power Hours that will each award $1,500 to the nonprofit that raises the most money during that particular hour.
“We’re encouraging donors to submit their online donations on behalf of the YMCA during the hours of 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on May 23,” Unroe added. “During this Ingevity Afternoon Power Hour, our corporate neighbor will donate $1,500 to the large nonprofit that raises the most money during this 60-minute time frame.”
Additionally, 13 Golden Ticket prizes will be awarded while $7,000 will be evenly distributed among all nonprofits that receive at least 10 donations. A $3,000 grand prize award will be given to the small nonprofit that raises the most money, and $3,000 will be awarded to the large nonprofit that raises the most funds. Small nonprofits are organizations with an operating budget of less than $150,000 while large nonprofits are categorized as organizations with an operating budget of over $150,000.
“We appreciate the efforts of The Alleghany Foundation in once again holding Give Local Alleghany Highlands,” Unroe said. “The foundation’s support of local nonprofits is tremendously appreciated.”
