Buchanan, VA – It was an offensive-attack for the Alleghany Mountaineers on Thursday in Buchanan as the team erupted for 12 runs on 14 hits in a 12-2 victory over the James River Knights.

The Mounties jumped on the Knights early and didn’t let up. Anthony Webb put his team ahead with a two-run single in the first, which was followed by an RBI double from Hunter DePriest, and a two-out RBI single from Dalton Griffith.

Following their four-run first inning, the team repeated itself in the second with another four runs added onto the scoreboard to take a commanding eight-run lead. Kole Caldwell provided the big hit in the inning with a two-run single.

While he provided his team with run support offensively, Webb, on the mound, was just as effective as he went the distance, pitching the Mounties to a complete-game victory. Over seven innings, Webb allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out seven. It was his sixth win of the season.

DePriest, who had an RBI double in the first, finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate as he added an RBI single in the seventh inning. Garrett Via and Wyatt Griffith each had an RBI as well. DePriest, Via, Conner McPeek, and Eli Weese led the Mounties with two hits apiece.

While the Knights were able to get baserunners on, the team could not find that big hit that would set them over to get back into the game. Heath Andrews and Colin Cook led the team with two hits each, while Cook provided his team with their lone RBI of the game. Zeal Hammons took the loss for the Knights as he gave up eight runs (five earned) on nine hits, one walk, and struck out three over two innings on the mound.

The Mounties who picked up their 15th win of the season to improve to 15-0 overall and 8-0 in the Three Rivers District wrap up their regular season this week. On Tuesday, they host the Glenvar Highlanders, while on Wednesday they host the Rockbridge County Wildcats out of the Valley District, and on Friday their regular season wraps up with a trip to Radford to play the Bobcats.
