LOW MOOR – Backed by just enough run support, senior Halen Lowman was phenomenal on the mound as picked up his sixth win of the season following the Alleghany Mountaineers 3-0 Three Rivers District victory over the Radford Bobcats in Low Moor.

With both teams locked in a close battle on the diamond, the offense for both teams came at a premium. The Mounties provided enough run support for Lowman who tossed 5.2 innings of shutout baseball, while he gave up just two hits on the mound.

The run support for Lowman started in the first inning after he retired the Bobcats in order in the top of the inning. With two-outs, fellow senior Wyatt “Papi” Griffth ripped an RBI single that scored Garrett Via who had walked in the previous at bat.

The Mounties added runs in each of the third and fourth innings on a fielder’s choice RBI groundout by Conner McPeek and an RBI single from Kole Caldwell.

Three runs on five hits from the offense was more than enough for Lowman Monday evening as he did his thing shutting down the first nine batters he faced. In the fourth inning, Lowman overcame adversity as the Bobcats were able to put their first runners of the game on base. Joey Raccuia was the first batter to reach for the Bobcats after he drew a four-pitch leadoff walk from Lowman. Junior Lester with one out in the inning broke up the no-hitter with a single. Lowman would settle down by striking out the next two batters to get out of the jam while keeping his then two-run lead intact.

Holding onto a three-run lead in the sixth inning, Lowman only for the second time in the game found himself in a jam. Following a big 6-4-3 double-play, Evan Wionski provided the Bobcats with just their second hit. Lowman’s evening would end following his fourth walk of the game as he put J. Lester on after he drew a seven-pitch walk. McPeek would only need three pitches to get the Mounties out of the jam as he struck out Mason Murphy to end the side. McPeek would pick up his second save of the season after retiring the Bobcats in order in the seventh inning.

 M. Lester suffered the loss for the Bobcats after allowing three runs on four hits, while walking two, and striking out a pair.

The win for the Mounties pushed their record to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the district.
