COVINGTON, VA – Kayla Bartley (W/1-for-3) was dominant last Thursday as she threw a no-hitter in the Covington Lady Cougars 16-0 victory over the Craig County Rockets at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
In five-innings of work, Bartley had just two base runners reach base, as she walked one, and a Lady Cougars fielding error allowed another to reach. Other than that, Bartley was nearly perfect as she struck out 11 in the win.
Bartley was backed by an offensive attack as the Lady Cougars piled up 16 runs on 15 hits. Tyra Rose (3-for-4) was center stage of the offense with a four RBI performance. Along with Rose, Gabby Marshall (3-for-3) was the only other on the team with a three-hit day at the plate. Laken Cantrell (2-for-3), and Addison Morris (2-for-3) each had a pair of hits, while Cantrell, and Taylor Stayton (1-for-1) each had a pair of RBIs.
The Lady Cougars offense never let up. The team scored runs in every inning with the fourth being the loudest with a seven-run inning as the team then built their 16-run lead.
Sara Jones (L/0-for-2) suffered the loss for the Lady Rockets as she allowed 10 runs on 11 hits, while walking two, and struck out four in 3.2 innings on the mound.
