SALEM, Va. (VR) – Make that nine in a row for the Alleghany Mountaineers (9-0/2-0), who remain unbeaten following a 7-2 victory on the road against the Glenvar Highlands on Wednesday evening.

A four-run sixth inning from the Mountaineers put the game out of reach for the Highlanders. Eli Weese (2-for-5) and Hunter DePriest (2-for-4) each provided RBIs in the four-run sixth that helped put the game away for the Mountaineers, as they had taken a commanding 7-1 lead.

On the mound, Halen Lowman (W/1-for-2) improved to 4-0 on the season, as he was sold in his five innings, where he gave up one unearned run on five hits, while walking two, and struck out five. At the plate, Lowman helped his own cause out with an RBI single during the second inning, which shortly followed a solo home run from DePriest, who had put the team ahead 1-0.

DePriest and Weese each had a two-hit performance at the plate, while five different Mountaineers reached the RBI column: DePriest, Lowman, Weese, Anthony Webb (1-for-4) and Chris Harden (0-for-3). In relief of Lowman, Conner McPeek (1-for-3) gave up one earned run on two hits, walked one and struck out one in two innings.

The Highlanders put together some hits as they were only outhit by one 8-7; however, the team did struggle scoring runs, as they left nine runners on base in the loss. Brendan Magruder (2-for-3) led the team with a two-hit day, while Adam Franklin (0-for-3) and Dawson Anderson (1-for-4) each had an RBI. Ashton Meadows (L/1-for-4) suffered the loss as he gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in five innings on the mound, while walking four, and struck out three.

The Mountaineers look to stay unbeaten on Friday when they host Carroll County in a district matchup.
