The city of Covington has partnered with Head Down Strategies, the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation, the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and local property owners to build on the early momentum gained last year on Main Street revitalization with the Community Open House.
The Community Open House was hosted by the city and the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
The city has awarded the Head Down Strategies Consulting Firm of Richmond with the task of helping to revitalize and redevelop the historic downtown district.
Head Down Strategies, LLC, an experienced economic development consulting firm, will be providing planning and economic development services that are customized, with a practical approach.
“Their style of developing these services are ‘boots on the ground’ and can help bridge the gap between the public and private sectors by providing support in strategic planning, site location, marketing/business development and interim economic development services,” Covington City Manager Krystal Onaitis said.
Shannon Heady, a partner with Head Down Strategies, said the firm is excited about the Covington project.
“Our team is thrilled to begin work on this important project,” said Heady. “We have experience working in both urban and rural communities and backgrounds developing strategic plans based upon the needs of community stakeholders.
“We are inspired by the many positive strengths of this community,” Heady added.
