CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) The Alleghany Highlands Trail Club (AHTC) has announced its 2023 fundraiser.
On April 22, AHTC director Michael Scales will once again compete in the Rockstar 270 Mountain Bike Challenge on his single speed bike to raise funds for the Alleghany Highlands Trail Club.
This event starts in Harrisonburg and travels brutal backcountry trails and dirt roads to Roanoke for 266 miles, gaining over 36,000 feet in elevation. The first goal is to finish (completed twice out of four attempts so far), and the second goal is to best his fastest time of 60 hours.
The Alleghany Highlands Trail Club is focused on maintaining local, multiuse trails in the George Washington National Forest, Douthat State Park and The Nature Conservancy property in Alleghany and Bath counties. Their work enables the recreation of mountain bikers, hikers, equestrians and hunters, which in turn drives ecotourism dollars to local Virginia communities such as Clifton Forge, Covington and Hot Springs.
Donor support plays a crucial role in the club’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the multiuse trails in the region. Donate online at https://givebutter.com/Es8aSe
For local cash or check contributions, kindly leave them at Jack Mason’s Tavern and Brewery in Clifton Forge.
