The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library will host a blackout poetry event for teens on Tuesday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. The program invites teens to challenge themselves to a new type of writing and will be led by Josh Hagy.
Blackout poetry takes other authors’ works, ranging from comic books to novels, and creates original poems from the words on the pages. Attendees will be offered markers and books to create their projects. Writers begin by circling words on the page, making a sequence that forms a poem. After finding these words, the writer covers the rest of the page in black marker and art to draw the focus on the poem they’ve created.
The library is located at 406 W. Riverside Street in Covington and can be reached at 540-962-3321 or by visiting www.ahrlib.org.
