HOT SPRINGS, Va. (WVDN) – For the first time since 2019, the Bath County Chargers (0-1) played a home baseball game as the team opened up their 2023 high school baseball campaign this past Thursday with a 21-1 loss to the visiting Pendleton County Wildcats.

Following the 2019 season, COVID-19 struck which canceled all sporting events, while in 2021 field conditions prevented home games from happening, and in 2022 the field was under renovations.

It wasn’t the homecoming the Chargers may have hoped for, however, as the Wildcats jumped out on the Chargers with a big 10-run first inning and put the game away in the third inning following an eight-run third inning to take an 18-1 lead.

James Vincell (3-for-3) led all hitters with a three-hit performance for the Wildcats, along with a five-RBI day. Chase Owens (1-for-2) and Cashton Kisamore (1-for-2) each added three RBIs a piece.

Cam Lowry (2-for-2) and Hunter Waldeck (2-for-3) led the Chargers with two hits each, while Lowry had the team’s lone RBI.

The Chargers pitching staff issued 15 walks in the loss.

The Chargers hosted Eastern Montgomery on Tuesday.
