Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “Good Neighbor” final rule, which targets power plants and heavy industry:
“The EPA’s newest interstate emission rules will accelerate coal power plant closings and could lead to grid reliability problems like rolling blackouts throughout multiple states, including Virginia. We should not be forcing utilities to make snap decisions based on the Biden Administration’s radical green agenda, rather than based on the energy needs of Americans.”
“The EPA must take a balanced approach when setting new regulations, which includes considering the importance of coal and natural gas to the American economy and the negative repercussions of rushing to renewables at the expense of stable, baseload power.” NOTE: Last July, Griffith joined his fellow Energy and Commerce Republicans in sending a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan questioning how the EPA’s regulatory actions affect America’s immediate and long-term grid reliability. The letter was not responded to.
