Bus Terminal To Be Opened In Covington
A modern bus terminal, now nearing completion on Maple Avenue between the Collins and the O’Gara hotels, will be opened for use Thursday, it was announced today.
The bus terminal will be a center for the Hot Springs Bus Line, the Covington Transportation Company and the Otto Brothers Bus lines, and will form a waiting room and ticket office for those lines.
It is possible that tickets will be placed on sale there for Eastern Bus Lines and the Blue and Gray Lines some time in the future.
The terminal will furnish information regarding bus travel to all points and will handle tickets.
It is being managed by Mr. T.R. Hayslett, who will have charge of the office.
Mr. Hayslett has, for some time, been connected with the Otto Brothers Bus Lines.

Boiling Springs High Organizes Future Farmers Club
The first Chapter of Future Farmers of America was organized at Boiling Spring High School on September 10.
The FFA is an organization of farm boys who are enrolled in Vocational Agriculture.
The club has as its objectives the development of competent, aggressive rural and agricultural leadership, to strengthen the confidence of farm boys and young men in themselves and their work; to create more interest in the intelligent choice of occupation; to develop character; train for useful citizenship and encourage cooperation and thrift.
Officers of the club elected were Arthur Caldwell, president; Melvin Tingler, vice president; Wallace Kimberlin, secretary; Winton Smith, treasurer, and Charles Chapman, reporter.
Members of the club have taken over the ice cream and drink concession in the school as a source of funds for their activities.
The profits are divided equally with the school.
Now at work converting the old bus garage into a farm workshop, the club will also sponsor a community organization which will be set up immediately.

Grand Opening
Pat Cook’s Riverside Esso Station, the newest automobile service center in Covington, is observing its grand opening today through Saturday.
Located at the intersection of Monroe Avenue and Riverside Street near the Rosedale Bridge, the station combines the most up-to-date equipment for quality car care with special features to add to the comfort of the motorist.
In addition to modern electronic automotive equipment, nine gasoline pumps and a carpeted lounge area, all designed to aid the local or long-distance traveler, the station is elaborately landscaped to add greatly to the beauty of the downtown area.

Judge Byrd Rules In Favor Of Town
Alleghany County Circuit Court Judge Duncan M. Byrd Jr. upheld the October 1994 action of Iron Gate Town Council in denying a mobile home permit to David L. Paxton after a hearing Friday.
Judge Byrd also ordered Paxton to remove the mobile home within 30 days after a court order is entered in this matter.
Paxton had purchased a mobile home and moved it onto the lot in question near the intersection of Chalybeate and Fifth streets in Iron Gate on September 30, 1994, even though council had tabled action in the permit at its September meeting until the October council meeting.
Buck Heartwell, Iron Gate town attorney, represented council at the hearing, while Chris Schinstock of Covington served as counsel for Paxton.

TAP Program Housed In New Covington School
Local and regional officials from the TAP Head Start and Early Head Start as well as the Covington City School System celebrated a first Tuesday night.
The ceremony and open house marked the first time TAP has located their program for infants and children in a newly-built, state-of-the-art facility.
Selena Childress-Mayo, director of the Head Start program from TAP’s headquarters in Roanoke, said the Covington school division’s decision to allow TAP to occupy three rooms at Edgemont Primary School for the Head Start was “a long time coming, however, we’re very excited to have this collaboration with Covington City Schools.”
