Roy Byrd, Sr., age 96, of 805 Mound Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor.
A lifelong resident of Clifton Forge, Roy was born October 29, 1924 to the late George and Eva Robinson Byrd.
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and served for 6 years in the United States Army during World War II. He worked 36 years for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, retiring as a Stationary Fireman, and was a 70 year member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Wills Byrd; a daughter, Stephanie Ann Byrd Edwards; and four brothers and sisters.
He is survived by a daughter, Leala Byrd of New York; Roy Edward Byrd, Jr. of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Mary Waddy and Jean Megginson, both of Clifton Forge; seven grandchildren, Salisha Smith, Trentie Meekins, Tretin Meekins, Moses Hunter III, Christie Hunter, Keith Hunter and Chase Woodard; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no services at this time.
