Bernard Reed Bowling 80, of 3008 Valley Ridge Road, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Stone Spring Hospital in Dulles. 
Mr. Bowling was Jan. 13, 1940, in Alleghany County, a son of late Jesse Reed Bowling and Ella Johnson Bowling.  
In addition to  his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Martin Jr.,  Gerald Bowling and James Bowling; and one sister, Barbara Bowling Jett.
Bernard served in United States Navy, and had retired from Hercules, Inc.  
He was an avid hunter and golfer and loved being around his friends, but health issues had kept him from that for quite a few years.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Sheppard Bowling of Covington;  a son, Jesse A. Bowling, of Millboro; a grandson, Brody Fox of Covington; a brother,  Aubrey Bowling and his wife Pat of Covington; and  several nieces and nephews. 
In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated.
A private service will be held at a later date at Alleghany Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions can be made in Bernard’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive #900, Arlington, Va. 22202 or to the Selma Fire Department P.O. Box 124, Selma Va. 24474.
Arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
