Charles Fitzhugh Smith, Jr., 94, of Hot Springs, VA passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Bath County Hospital. 
He was born August 29, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Charles Fitzhugh Smith, Sr. and Florence Hodge Smith.
Charles was the former owner of Charles G. Crews & Sons Inc. for over 25 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Charles was a member of Ashwood United Methodist and Cliffview Golf Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing golf, and spoiling his wife and grandchildren. Charles was known for being a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Carolyn Carpenter Smith of 56 years; 3 sons, Johnny E. Smith Sr. and late wife, Phyllis of Mount Airy, NC, William R. Smith Sr. and wife Betty of Hillsville, Va, Kenneth L. Smith and wife Donna of Mount Airy, NC; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Smith; a sister, Betty Hooker; and a brother, William Smith.
A funeral service will be conducted at Friday, November 20, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Baek officiating. The family will receive friends between 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. before the service. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Cliffview Golf Club.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Fire and Rescue PO Drawer N Hot Springs, VA 24445 and the Ashwood United Methodist Church PO Box 94 Hot Springs, VA 24445.
