ATHENS, W.Va. — Six local athletes have been selected to all-decade athletic teams at Concord University.
The Concord University Sports Information Department announced the teams.
• Derek Dressler – Football (Concord 2015-2018, Covington High School graduate)
Dressler leads off perhaps the most decorated position group on the all-decade team. Dressler was named All-Mountain East Conference first team and third team All-Region in 2018 after being voted All-MEC second team in 2017. After seeing time at guard over the first two years of his career,
Dressler moved over to center where he didn’t miss a snap during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
• Kristen Rose – Softball (Concord 2014-2016, Alleghany High School graduate)
Rose joined all-decade teammate Alayna Furr in the middle infield for Concord for the majority of her career. She swiped 44 bases in just three years to rank third in program history while collecting 31 doubles, seventh in program history, and 11 triples, second at CU. Rose was selected to the All-MEC second team in 2015.
• Tyler Farrar – Soccer (Concord 2010-2013, Alleghany High School graduate)
Farrar spent time in both the midfield and atop the formation for the Mountain Lions. The Covington native finished his career with three goals and eight assists to rank sixth in program history. All three of Farrar’s goals came in 2012 as a junior.
• Meghan Kinkead – Track (Concord 2010-2014, Alleghany High School graduate)
Just two athletes threw the hammer on the women’s track and field team during the decade and Kinkead hit a mark of 26.04 meters at Radford in 2013.
Kinkead hit 23.28 meters in the discus at the Coastal Carolina Invite in 2012 for the third-best mark for the program in the decade.
• Karleigh Thompson – Track and Cross Country (Concord 2015-2019, Alleghany High School graduate)
Though Thompson just missed going under 40 minutes in the 10,000-meters with a time of 40:01.78, her performance was good enough for second at the MEC Championships in 2018 to earn All-MEC second team.
In cross country, Thompson was a four-time all-conference selection as she culminated her career with a first team All-MEC award during the championship season in 2018. Thompson placed 14th, 17th and 18th before joining Bailey Knowles on the All-MEC first team with a sixth-place finish in 2018.
• Cedric Drennen – Track and Cross Country (Concord 2019-current, Alleghany High School graduate)
Drennen ran a time of 9:04.43 in the 3,000-meters.
Through two years of his cross country collegiate career, Drennen has collected All-MEC second team recognition in both attempts at the MEC Championship. During his freshman season, the Covington native was 12th at the conference meet. This past fall, Drennen earned one of the final All-MEC second team spots by placing 19th.
Drennen is currently a junior at CU.
