Million Dollar Fire
Dense volumes of acrid smoke are shown pouring from the plant and yards of the Henry P. Duker Lumber Company, at Baltimore, MD., at the height of the conflagration, regarded as one of the worst in the city’s history. Eleven alarms rushed 3 fireboats, 60 engines and 400 men to the scene to battle the flames. The heat in the vicinity of the blazing plant was so intense that three lines of hose actually melted.

Construction Scheduled To Be Completed In 1963
Hercules Powder Company announced today that it will manufacture and market biaxially-oriented “Pro-Fax” polypropylene film. The new product will be made at Covington in a film plant which is scheduled to be completed in early 1963. Engineering studies have been underway for several months and construction will start in April.

Pro-Consolidation Group Opens Area Campaign
A campaign of citizens supporting the consolidation of local governments- Covington, Clifton Forge, Iron Gate and Alleghany County- to educate citizens on the merits of operating under one government began in earnest Wednesday night with the unveiling of a 20-minute slide program and initial distribution of a brochure which answers questions on the proposed merger.

Cougars Place Fourth At Riverheads Tournament
The Covington wrestling team traveled to Riverheads this past Saturday to take part in the Gladiator Duals and came away with a fourth-place finish in the five-team field. Host Riverheads claimed the title with a perfect 4-0 record, while Fort Defiance was second with a record of 3-1. Wilson Memorial (2-2) was third, Covington (1-3) was fourth and Rappahannock County was fifth (0-4).
