Wrigley In Cubs Office
In the Cub office in the photo below, William Wrigley, Jr. (left), William Veeck (center) and Rogers Hornsby (right) are talking over the 1931 pennant race. Hornsby is giving Owner Wrigley the low down on his plans to rebuild the Cubs, and evidently, they have pleased Mr. Wrigley for the time being at least.

Small Dwelling Damaged By Fire
A small dwelling at 1380 Lyman Ave., Sunnymeade, was damaged by an overheated stove and was severely damaged by fire early this morning. The building was owned by the Owens Estate and was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Local firemen answered a call to the scene at 7:55 a.m. and spent about an hour extinguishing the fire.

CHS Student Places Ninth In Math Contest
Michelle L. Persinger of Covington High School received a rating of ninth in her division on the state level on the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics- Virginia Commonwealth University Mathematics Contest. Persinger ranked ninth out of a total of 155 students in Level A at the state level for classification A.

Iron Gate Town Council Votes To Eliminate Windshield Decals
Iron Gate Town Council voted Thursday night to eliminate the purchase and display of decals on vehicle windshields. In past years, residents were required to purchase a decal and display it by April 15. The town will install a Vehicle Registration License Fee (VRLF) that will be charged for each vehicle registered in the town on January 1 of each year.
