The Alleghany Highlands Arts Council will present a relaxed evening of improvisational jazz on Friday, February 3, in the Tom Dean Underground Cafe on the lower level of The Historic Masonic Theatre beginning at 7:00 pm. Victor Haskins and SKEIN will be the featured artists.
Haskins is a multi-instrumentalist, multidisciplinary artist, international performer, composer, improviser, bandleader, and educator. He and his band SKEIN create transformative, sound-based works which channel the power of human connection, immediacy, and inventiveness. They have released three albums of original music that defy genre categorization. They hail from the Richmond area but have performed all over the country and abroad.
Arts Council Executive Director described the event. “This concert will have an informal jazz club atmosphere. It might feel a little different than our regular Performing Arts Series offerings. Concessions and a cash bar will be available, and we want folks to take the opportunity to unwind and discover how cool jazz can be. It would be a great date night activity or a chance to gather with friends to hear exceptional music.”
Tickets for general club seating are $10 for adults and $8 for students. They are available online at https:// historicmasonictheatre.com/ victorhaskins or can be purchased at the door if seating is available. There is limited capacity, so advance purchase is advised.
