Just the weekend ago, the Alleghany Mountaineers indoor track team had five of their athletes qualify for the state meet.
This past weekend at the Holiday Track Classic at Roanoke College, the Mountaineers had two athletes place in the top-10 of their event.
One of those athletes, freshman standout, Kiera Lowman, who already punched her ticket to the state meet, continued with her phenomenal and historic freshman year as she broke the Alleghany High School record in the girls 3200 meter run with a time of 11:39.58, while finishing third overall in the event. The school record was previously held by Tracy Wrenn (1986) and Cheyenne Nicely (2007).
Lowman also placed in the top-10 in the girls 1000 meter run as she finished seventh overall with a time of 3:18.133.
Brennon Mahon also was a top-10 finisher as he placed seventh overall in the boys 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.40. Meanwhile, the boys 4×800 team also placed in the top-10 with a ninth overall finish at 10:13.17.
For Covington High School, Elijah Fasig competed in three events and finished 48th overall in three events; 55 meter dash, 300 meter dash, and the long jump.
The Cougars and Mountaineers will have some time off before their next meet, which comes on January 7th at VMI for the East Coast Elite meet.
