Hold Joe Muck In Robbery Case
Joe Muck, 16-year-old white boy, is being held by authorities in connection with the robbery of G.F. Farmer’s store Sunday night. The arrest was made by Policeman Campbell late yesterday afternoon. Farmer’s store, on Bath Street, was entered by way of a rear window and door and goods, mostly cigarettes and tobacco, valued at about $50 stolen. Some of the cigarettes have been recovered. Young Muck has been under arrest before in connection with robberies.

Allies To Base U.S. Missiles In Europe
The 15-nation North Atlantic Alliance, defying Russian threats and warnings, agreed today to base U.S.-made nuclear missiles in Europe. The United States thus won its major purpose at the conference. The price paid by the United States was an agreement under pressure to sound out the Russians on a cold war truce, including a new effort at disarmament.

State Short $337 Million
Slow tax collections caused by a sluggish economy point to a $337 million gap between what the state takes in and what it had planned to spend during the 1983-84 budget period, Gov. Charles S. Robb says. Robb said he and his budget advisers knew the state was in for rough financial sledding months ago but it was only recently that the full extent of the dilemma emerged.

Environmentalists Go To Court Over Logging Plans
A coalition of environmental groups filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday challenging U.S. Forest Service plans to log a popular recreation area in the Jefferson National Forest. Forest Service spokeswoman Donna Wilson would not comment about the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Big Stone Gap.

Two Area Firefighters Facing Arson Charges
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference at noon today to announce the arrest of two Alleghany County firefighters on arson charges. Nicholas S. Brackenridge, 21, of Clifton Forge, and Christopher “Scotty” Boyd, 19, of Iron Gate, have been charged with arson to a building and conspiracy to commit arson. Both men were arrested Tuesday.
