Roger Dean DePriest, Sr., loving husband and father, went to be with the Lord peacefully the night of November 5, 2022, at 10:00 PM after a decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his family and friends during the last days of his life here on Earth.
He was born November 15, 1962, in Alleghany County and has resided in Alleghany County all his life. He was a logger and then an equipment operator for Garten Trucking. He enjoyed hunting, especially raccoon and deer, fishing, camping and mowing grass. He also coached and umpired little league. Roger enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Lynn Brookman DePriest; four children, Roger Dean DePriest, Jr. and wife, Annie, Joshua L. DePriest and wife, Kristie, Lakeyla DePriest and fiancé, James Brewster, and Matthew DePriest and girlfriend, Earria Imburgia; eight wonderful grandchildren that he loved and held a special place in his heart, Dylan, Malachi, Eli, Tanner, Layla, Kayla, Daulton, and Kendyl all of Covington; a brother, Donald DePriest and wife, Teresa; five sisters, Lynda Tucker and husband Michael, Mary Ann Provost and husband, David, Patsy “Pat” Tingler and husband, Rodney, Tamara “Tammy” Fridley and husband Bobby, and Joy Fridley and husband, David.
In addition to his parents, Ira Thomas DePriest, Sr. and Pauline Rogers DePriest he was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Sue Montgomery; and two brothers, Ira Thomas DePriest, Jr. (wife, Gail DePriest) and Billy Grey DePriest (wife, Stella DePriest)
Friends and family are welcome to come celebrate Roger Dean DePriest Sr’s life at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Reverend Stan Sizemore officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Roger Dean DePriest, Jr., Joshua DePriest, Matthew DePriest, James Brewster, and grandsons, Dylan, Malachi, Eli, and Daulton.
