Among those who entered the HOF class included the 1973 Gary High School Class AA State Basketball Championship team, as well as 12 individuals, including Covington High School varsity head coach, Chris Jones.
Jones played basketball, football, and was on the track team for Big Creek High School.
At Big Creek High School, Jones, as a senior was named to the All-State football team and played in the North-South game following his high school graduation.
In college, Jones attended Concord College, where he played football for the Mountain Lions. In 1990, Jones was selected to the All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (All-WVIAC) football team as a lineman.
At the High School coaching level, Jones has won two state championships, leading Bath County to one in 2001 and Heritage in 2002. Along with his two state titles, Jones has won eight district championships as well.
With the Covington Cougars, Jones has added a Pioneer District Coach of the Year award to his resume, along with his teams qualifying for the playoffs during his first four years. Jones also coached the Cougars to four straight victories of the Alleghany Mountaineers in the Brackman Cup Game. The four straight victories over the Mountaineers is the longest winning streak the Cougars had on them.
Outside of sports, Jones also excelled in the classroom in high school and college, where he was on the Dean’s List during each semester.
With all of his accomplishments and accolades, Jones has certainly had a Hall of Fame career.
