Shirley Vernelle Owen Hill, age 88, of 800 West Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, and formerly of Eagle Rock, Virginia died Saturday, October 8, 2022, at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor Virginia.
Shirley was born in Eagle Rock on January 28, 1934, to the late William and Effie Thompson Owen. She worked for the Virginia Employment Commission and was a Payroll Supervisor for the former Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital and Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Eagle Rock Baptist Church where she served as church pianist for many years. She loved music, especially Alan Jackson and Elvis, and enjoyed cooking, but was happiest when she was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Delano “Billy” Hill.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Hill Clark and Susan Hill Hostetter, and husband Ricky, both of Eagle Rock; a sister, Peggy Fridley of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Mandi Bishop, Kristen Helvey, Brandi Via, Lindsay Raether, and Ashton Hostetter; twelve great-grandchildren, Hunter, Kearston, Tyler, Jarrett, Cody, Abby, Aidan, Jalen, Madilyn, Talin, Stella, and Jaxon; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special companion, Daisy.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Virgil Woodie officiating. Interment will follow in Eagle Rock Baptist Cemetery, Eagle Rock. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
