Miss Thomas Is New C.C.S. Head
The Covington Community Service has a new director, who has succeeded to the position made vacant by the resignation of T. Myers. The new director, Miss Ella Thomas, has had a wide experience in this work, as well as being a physical director in schools. Miss Thomas expects to organize a basketball team in the various grades of high school and will hold an interclass game as soon as the teams are made up. She also plans to organize a Girl Scout troop.

Cornerstone To Be Laid At McAllister Church Tomorrow
A cornerstone laying with accompanying ceremonies, sponsored by Covington Lodge No. 171 A.F. & A.M., will take place at the annex of McAllister Memorial Church tomorrow at 5 o’clock. The cornerstone, which was presented by Covington lodge, was delayed in arriving and therefore the work on the building has been continued, the church nearing completion at this time. The need for a large church at McAllister came when the congregation outgrew the little church.

Lost Child Quickly Located Last Night
Cindy Thompson, about 5, wandered away from her parents during a midget league football game at Casey Field last night, causing them to call a police officer when they looked for her and were unable to find her. The parents, Mr & Mrs. Price Thompson who operate a concession stand at the field. The little girl was located in the vicinity of Covington High School.

County Courthouse Gets A Facelift
Despite delays, both expected and unexpected, work is proceeding on renovations to the Alleghany County Courthouse in the building’s first major facelift since 1970. The project will increase badly needed office space. The courthouse was built in 1911 and is the third since a wooden structure built in 1770 served as both court and a Methodist meeting house. In 1822 a courthouse was built with provisions for a clerk’s office, a jail and a whipping post.

Robbie Thomas Joins Virginia State Bowling Hall Of Fame
Robbie Thomas has devoted much of her life to bowling. Earlier this month, the sport honored her work. Thomas, who has bowled for over 30 years in local leagues, was inducted into the Virginia State United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Gaithersburg, Md. Thomas joined the hall for her meritorious service. “It’s a big honor,” said Thomas. “I really feel like I joined an elite group of people.”
