Betty Lou Devers Downey, age 92, of 1803 North Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, September 26, 2022 at her residence.
She was born February 19, 1930, in Covington, Virginia to the late Charles Payne and Margaret Keyser Devers. She was a graduate of the Chesapeake and Ohio School of Nursing and served in the operating room as a nurse anesthetist for the C & O Hospital, Emmett Memorial Hospital, and Alleghany Regional Hospital. After retirement, she met regularly with other members of the Alleghany Regional Hospital Operating Room Nurses Association. She was also a member of Horeb Baptist Church in Millboro, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Stewart Downey, and two brothers, Alfred Devers and Charles Melvin Devers.
She is survived by two daughters, Dixie Leigh Daniel and husband Andrew of Roanoke and Bonnie D Bush and fiancé Bill Lenherr of Clifton Forge; a son, Charles Edward Downey and wife Stephanie Leigh of Eagle Rock; a sister, Patricia Carter of Covington; four grandchildren, Chris Hedge, Cindy Hedge, Rebecca Daniel, and Caitlyn Downey; a number of nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Dianna Scruggs and Samantha Chapman. The family would like to thank Dr. Brown and the Intrepid Hospice staff, including Jim Bay, RN and Alyssa Rexrode, CNA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM in the Mausoleum Chapel of Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
