Make Big Liquor Haul In St. Louis
The contents of 893 barrels of whiskey which had been stored in the bonded warehouse of the Jack Daniel Distillery here have been spirited away by the substitution of water after the contents had been gauged by a revenue agent, it has been learned at the offices of Arnold J. Hellmich, collector of internal revenue. Each barrel contained 42 gallons, and it was estimated that at the drugstore price of $6 a pint the stolen whisky had a retail value of $1,800,288.

Convention Of First Aid Men Opens Tonight
Several hundred out-of-town visitors will arrive in Covington late today and early tomorrow to participate in the third annual convention of the Virginia Association of Rescue Squads. Convention headquarters will be at the Collins Hotel. The convention will start off with a board meeting to be held at the Collins Hotel at 8 o’clock this evening. The business session will be held at the Westvaco Clubhouse tomorrow morning.

Watson Band Thanks Public
Jack White, president of the Elementary Band Booster Club of Watson School, today expressed thanks on behalf of the club for the response given them by the community in their fundraising activity Saturday. He said, “We are elated with the wonderful response given us by the community and hope that we will be supported in the future as we have been in the past. Again, we say, “Thanks’.”

Clifton Forge Official Denies Dog Drownings
Contrary to rumor, a litter of puppies was not drowned by the Clifton Forge Animal Shelter. According to City Manager George Ferrell a German Shepard bitch, picked up September 12, near Cliftondale Park, was in fair to poor condition when it was taken to the pound. On September 14 the dog gave birth to a litter of premature puppies. Some of the animals were stillborn while others died shortly after birth. While the puppies were with their mother in the pen, the surviving puppies either accidentally crawled into a four-inch drain pipe or were placed there by their mother.

Carfest 2012 Raises Funds For American Heart Association
Carfest 2012 held at Cucci’s in Covington Saturday attracted 106 entries. Proceeds from the show, totaling $654.21, were donated to the Alleghany Unit of the American Heart Association. The money was donated on behalf of Deanna Hall, Queen for a cause.
