Comebacks was the theme when the Alleghany Mountaineers (0-8) and Bath County Chargers (6-2) last played each other on the volleyball court last Tuesday.
However, there would be comebacks this time around as the Chargers picked up their sixth win of the season following a four set victory over the Mountaineers on Tuesday evening; 20-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17.
When the two teams played last Tuesday, the Chargers opened the match winning the first two sets and putting the Mountaineers in must-win territory right away.
The Mountaineers would comeback two win the third and fourth sets to force a decisive game five in which the team took an early 10-4 advantage.
However, the Chargers would rally behind nine straight points including eight straight serving points from Laken Tingler which put the Chargers ahead 13-10 in the fifth set. The Chargers would go on to win the final set 15-12 and the match.
One week later, the outcome was the same, but the rallying/comebacks were not.
Despite dropping the first set 20-25, the Chargers came back to win in the second, third and fourth sets, including sets three and four by a combined 18 points.
The Chargers were led by Tingler who put together a 10 kill, three ace performance.
The Mountaineers were led by Hannah Hensley who matched Tinger for a game-high 10 kills. Meanwhile Abbi Riley and Kalin Rice each had four aces.
The loss dropped the Mountaineers to 0-8 on the season. The Mountaineers were back on the court on Thursday night for the final ever meeting against the Covington Cougars at the Cougar Den.
Meanwhile, the Chargers were also on the court last night as they were on the road against the Buffalo Gap Bison.
