The Covington Cougars (1-0) varsity volleyball team kicked off their 2022 season with big road victory over the James River Knights (0-1) on Monday evening; 18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10.
After dropping the first set 18-25, the Cougars bounced back in their next two sets to gain the advantage at 2-1. The Knights would force a fifth set with by narrowly picking up a fourth set victory at 20-25. In the final set, the Cougars would hang to the victory following a 15-10 fifth set win.
Leading the way for the Cougars was Aubrey Brown who’s performance helped guide the team to the road victory. Brown had a game-high 19 kills, six aces, and 22 digs.
Meanwhile, Lexi Dressler, had a game-high 23 assists. Kaiya Lian and Jayahna Hughes each added seven kills, while Lian also had 24 digs in the Cougars season opening victory.
The Cougars are back on the court today as they travel just miles down the road to Alleghany to face the Mountaineers.
