JP Crawford was the difference maker as he led the Riverheads Gladiators to a three-team match-up golf victory on Thursday over the Alleghany Mountaineers and the Covington Cougars at the Gypsy Hill Golf Club in Staunton, Va.
Crawford, the medalist of the match-up finished the day with a best 39 on the scorecard which put him at a 5-over-par for the match.
The Gladiators finished the match scoring 174 as a team as they held off the Mountaineers who weren’t far behind as they carded a 187 for the three-team match-up. Meanwhile, the Cougars finished with a 225.
Outside of Crawford, the Gladiators three other golfers who scored in the over scorecard finished around the mid 40’s for the match which is right around where the Mountaineers four recorded golfers scored.
Leading the way for the Mountaineers were Cadiz Marshall and Chase DePriest whom each shot a 46 for the match. Carter Wickline finished with a 47, while Kai Rowland finished with a 48.
The Cougars who scored a 225 were led by Dylan Stull who shot a 54 for the match. Right behind Stull was Landon Arritt and Brayden Herald whom each finished with a 55. Miguel Johnson and Isaiah Hubble each scored a 61, while eighth grader Trista Reynolds finished the match with a 59.
The Mountaineers and Cougars are each back on the same green today as part of a nine-hole match at the Cliffview Golf Club at 4:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Bath County Chargers dropped their match to the Pocahontas County Warriors, 203-232 on Thursday at the Homestead’s Old Course.
The Chargers were led by Carter Hooker who scored a 47, while Luke Turner recorded a 57. Rounding out the Chargers were Isaac Ingram who finished with a 59, while Ryan Ratcliffie carded a 69.
The winning Warriors were led by medalist Dillon Dunz who shot a 7-over-par for a 43 in the afternoon.
The Chargers are also back on the green today as they host East Montgomery and James River at The Homestead at 2:00 p.m.
