I am blaming it on the relentlessly hot weather. And then, let’s add in the rain, which seems to occur every afternoon these days.
I have no energy. Just the thought of something like going to Covington for errands makes me tired. I have to force myself to go for my walk, and even then, sometimes it doesn’t happen. If I don’t get out there by 10 a.m., it’s just too darn hot.
I don’t have the energy to clean my house. The thought of dragging around a heavy vacuum cleaner makes me discard that idea altogether. I will admit, I have a “housekeeper,” but she’s busy with a “real” job, and hasn’t been able to come in the past four weeks. Usually, every two weeks is enough. I am not really a messy person. But, there are things that must be done. Just do me a favor and do not stop by for awhile!
The other day, I had to muster everything I had just to change the sheets on my bed. It is a grueling task, wrestling with the too-high mattress that not every fitted sheet will fit. It took me more than 45 minutes to get it done. Even then, it had to be done in steps, with rest breaks in between.
This week, I also had to gather my own trash and haul it to the Dumpsters. I know; sounds petty and complaining. But, just trying to operate those “bear proof” heavy metal gates on the Dumpster seems beyond me at times. I often lurk there, and wait for someone to come by. Then, I wave and cheerily call, “Please leave those gates open when you’re done!” On rare occasions, a fellow I know will happen by, and he actually takes my trash bag out of the boot and puts it in for me, slamming the gates behind him. God bless him!
I really don’t have much impetus for anything, except for reading. Ah. Sitting on the porch, reading, doesn’t take a lot of energy. I just slogged through a 471-page book, though, that I thought I’d never be done with: The Palace Papers, about the royal family of Great Britain. A friend recommended it to me. It was interesting, but still. How much can one read about the royal family? And really, what don’t we already know that we actually want to? I finally finished it last night, and happily closed the cover.
Now, I’m looking at a new Tom Clancy novel. I know Tom Clancy has been dead for several years. How does he keep churning out those novels, I’d like to know? Well, he apparently lined up a team of men with like interests who agreed to step in for him. While the book cover still proclaims “Tom Clancy,” if you look below, you’ll find another fellow named as the writer. I think this is a lure to acquire readers and keep these books high up on the list. At least, the characters haven’ t changed.
I’ve got to go to Lewisburg Thursday (tomorrow, as I write this), and the very thought makes me tired already. Oh, I am longing for fall, for the crisp temperatures and, I certainly hope, a renewal of energy. Maybe I can get something done? I just hope it doesn’t involve trash or sheets.
Summer temperatures … I really do not have to love them!
