LOW MOOR —School board members, staff, and school division legal counsel from across the Commonwealth, including Alleghany County Public School Superintendent Kim Halterman and Director of Human Resources and Pupil Personnel Fred Vaughan, attended the Virginia School Boards Association’s School Law Conference on Friday, June 3.
The conference offered legal guidance on several important topics including, Dyslexia and Specialized Reading, Holding Public Meetings, Division Staff and the First Amendment, and an update on education legislation.
“School and division leadership is complex, and we all appreciate the efforts of organizations like the VSBA to help keep all of us up-to-date on new legislation and case law. This event is a wonderful opportunity to hear from multiple experts in these areas,” Halterman said.
The Virginia School Boards Association, a voluntary, nonpartisan organization of Virginia school boards, promotes excellence in public education through advocacy, training and services. The Association offers conferences, information, training, and counseling designed to meet the needs of the Commonwealth’s educational leaders.
