Ford Wants Country To Arm
Henry Ford today declared that, first, the United States navy must be strengthened; second, the American airpower must be increased; third, the courts must be made subordinate to the people; further, the railroads must be reorganized, and centralized, possibly under some form of government control. The automobile manufacturer, who is now reputed to be the richest man in the world, incidentally said he is not interested in the presidency, and asserted the financial center of the country is moving from Wall Street to the Middle West.

Clifton Forge High School Senior Has Never Missed One Day Or Been Late
A record, both unique and admirable, has been established at Clifton Forge by Miss Eloise Lumsden, 16 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Lumsden, of Bath Street, and a member of the 1937 graduating class at Clifton Forge High School. Miss Lumsden’s record, and it’s one to be proud of, is this: During the 11 years that have elapsed since she entered the Clifton Forge public schools as a member of the first grade in 1926, she has never missed a single session of school nor has she been tardy a single time.

CSX Not Pulling Out Of Clifton Forge
Clifton Forge will continue to be a key element in the CSX rail network according to Charles J. Davis III, regional vice president of the company. Davis and other CSX officials met with Delegate William T. Wilson and representatives of Clifton Forge, Covington, Alleghany County and the chamber of commerce and Industrial Development Corporation in Clifton Forge in April. Last year, about 50 jobs at the Clifton Forge shops were relocated to Cumberland, Md.

Wildcats Top Mounties In BRD Title Game, 10-7
The past week has been history-making for the Rockbridge County softball team. Monday, they beat Lord Botetourt for their first-ever postseason win. Wednesday, they ended Northside’s run of 13 consecutive Blue Ridge District tournament titles. Yesterday at Northside High School, they beat Alleghany 10-7 to claim the Blue Ridge District tournament title. Alleghany catcher Maegan Walton talks things over with pitcher Taylor Morgan.
