On behalf of the Douthat SPEED Group, I would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the 24th Annual Douthat Lake Run Car Show that was held today on Sunday, May 22, 2022! I would like to thank all of the volunteers, park staff, spectators, participants, vendors, sponsors, Fincastle Baptist Church for providing shuttle service, and the media for all of your dedicated support! We were blessed with a beautiful hot sunny day and were even able to avoid the rain! 120 car show participants, hundreds of spectators, and multiple vendors came out to enjoy the Douthat State Park and the beautiful scenery the lake and the mountains provide! For those that don’t know, Douthat SPEED Group stands for State Park Environmental Education Group, and we are a 501c3 non-profit “friends group” for Douthat State Park. We raise money to make improvements to the park and 100% of our proceeds are spent to make improvements to the park. I would like to congratulate all of the winners of this year’s show, in my eyes each and everyone one of you are all winners. This year’s show was in honor of David Arritt, and I would like to thank David once again for his inspiration, dedication, and support of the Douthat SPEED Group. 24 years ago Forest Gladden approached David about starting a car show at Douthat State Park and hence was born the Douthat Lake Run Car Show and the Douthat SPEED Group. For the past 24 years, David has been very dedicated and inspirational to Douthat State Park and the Douthat SPEED Group and it was an honor for me today to present him with an appreciation plaque that was signed by all of the car show participants and an event t-shirt that displayed two of his vehicles.
