Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism held a “Ribbon Cutting Celebration” at 283 W. Main St. in Covington for Dr. Gary Pillow on Wed., May 11.
Dr. Pillow relocated from a block away to his new office in 2020 during the COVID-19, but the ceremony was delayed.
Pillow recalled, “We moved during the pandemic in 2020, but COVID-19 delayed our “Ribbon Cutting” till now.”
Dr. Gary Pillow, Audiologist & SLP is the trading name of his private practice.
In a prepared statement, Pillow revealed, “I have been serving and helping people with hearing and communication needs for this area since 1981.”
He began his career as an audiologist and continued his studies to become a speech-language pathologist and reading specialist.
Pillow stated, “I also currently work as a speech language pathologist part-time for Highland County Public Schools.”
His private practice provides assessment and remediation of hearing, speech and reading disorders.
Pillow noted in his statement, “I serve most all ages, and work with remediation of hearing through aural rehabilitation and also with treatment for auditory processing disorders.”
He lists his services as voice therapy and help for stroke victims who have speech and language problems.
Pillow noted, “Additionally, my speech and language services include help for those who have suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI), and I work with children who have general speech sound production (articulation) and language delays.”
His office is open in Covington three days per week, and he requires an appointment that can be set by calling (540) 968-0100. Also, he operates a satellite office in Roanoke.
Pillow’s written statement concluded, “I look forward to continuing serving the speech-language and hearing needs in the Highlands.”
Prior to Pillow’s cutting of the ribbon, Teresa, Executive Director of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, welcomed those who gathered for the ceremony.
Dr. John Rainone, President of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, made his opening remarks, and comments followed by Tom Sibold, Mayor of the City of Covington; Jeff Irvine, Mayor of the Town of Clifton Forge; Matt Garten, Chairman of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors; and Terri McClung, Director of the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation.
After Pillow spoke to the gathering and posed for photographs, he cut the ribbon and invited those in attendance to come inside for refreshments.
