Speaking to a large gathering at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College’s Moomaw Center, Delegate Terry Austin (R) delivered a message of hope at the Business Appreciation Reception on Wed., May 4.
The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism and the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation hosted the event, and Dr. John Rainone, President of DSLCC, served as master of ceremonies at the reception held in recognition of Virginia Business Appreciation Month.
After his opening remarks, Rainone invited Austin to the podium where Austin noted that the Virginia House of Delegates is now controlled by Republicans as is the State House where the three top state offices have been filled by Republicans.
He revealed that more funding has been made available for his district than in a while and that he is hopeful that the $5 million budgeted for the development of Green Pastures in Longdale Furnace area will not get sliced out of the budget.
Austin praised Rainone’s leadership and positive role DSLCC has played in the community and the importance of the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation along with its work with the Chamber.
Austin, who will be running for reelection, invited those in the audience that included such dignitaries as Clifton Forge Town Manager Chuck Unroe and Mayor Jeff Irvine along with Tom Sibold, Mayor of the City of Covington, and City Manager Crystal Onaitus, Chair of the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation, to call on him should they need his assistance in the economic development of the Alleghany Highlands.
The Virginia Business Appreciation Month Reception was coordinated by the Chamber’s Executive Director Teresa Hammond working in conjunction with Rainone, and the catering of the event provided those in attendance with ample opportunity to dine and converse at the several tables provided.
